After the devastating death of his father, Mario sells off the family land and moves to Manaus with his mother and two brothers to work in the capital's factory district. When they start living on the poverty line, they're approached by an entrepreneur who offers them a deal: try their new product (a chocolate that transforms into a biscuit) for free or take money that will be deducted from their future government benefits. Moradinho (Mario) (Raphael Vianna) is the only breadwinner of a family in dire needs. After being victim of a robbery, Moradinho decides to sell their house and lands to get money for survival, along with his family. After a long trip to a big city, they finally arrive in João Pessoa, where he starts to work as a bricklayer. After a month in João Pessoa, his mother dies in an accident and he fails to support his family. In desperation, he moves to Manaus with his father's death certificate and the papers of his brothers. In Manaus Mario gets a job at Mr. Marramaque's factory, but after many weeks of hard work, the owner refuses to pay him.
